Wendy Dufton Memorial Tournament Recap

Breaking down the standout performers and top prospects from a competitive weekend in London.

By Ontario Draft Watch · October 27, 2026

Oct 8, 2026 to Oct 11, 2026 · London, ON

With little time to regroup following the Toronto Titans Early Bird Tournament, the 2027 OHL Draft scouting season continued just one weekend later in London, Ontario, for the annual Wendy Dufton Memorial Tournament. Hosted by the London Junior Knights, the four-day event featured 76 teams across the U14, U15 and U16 divisions, including 40 teams competing at the U16 level. Long regarded as one of Ontario's premier early-season AAA tournaments, the event brought together a strong collection of talent from across the province and the United States, offering another valuable opportunity to evaluate the 2011-born draft class.

While several familiar teams returned to action following the Titans tournament, London provided a fresh look at a number of programs that were absent from the previous weekend's field. Notably, prep programs The Hill Academy and Upper Canada College (UCC) joined the competition, along with a strong American contingent featuring the likes of Honeybaked and Victory Honda. The expanded field brought together a strong mix of Ontario and American programs, giving scouts a broader look at the 2011-born draft class and an opportunity to evaluate prospects against a wider range of competition.

The Mississauga Rebels ultimately emerged as tournament champions, completing a perfect 8-0 run and capturing the title in dramatic fashion with a 2-1 shootout victory over Detroit's Victory Honda. Trailing late in the championship game, the Rebels found the equalizer with just 13 seconds remaining before eventually securing the win in the shootout. With two major tournaments now in the books, the early picture of the 2027 OHL Draft class is beginning to take shape, as familiar names continue to establish themselves and new prospects emerge. Below, Ontario Draft Watch highlights some of the standout performers from an entertaining weekend of hockey in London.

Standout Performers

Isaya Papineau

Upper Canada College

RW · 5 GP · 6 G · 6 A · 12 PTS

Papineau was one of the most dynamic offensive players in London, finishing tied for second in tournament scoring despite playing just five games. The talented UCC forward made an immediate impression, collecting 11 points through the round robin as the Blues opened the tournament with three convincing victories. Having already spent last season playing up with the 2010-born Upper Canada Cyclones, Papineau appears to be benefiting from that experience against older competition.

His explosive skating, puck skills at speed and ability to create offence off the rush make him an exciting prospect in the 2027 draft class. Although UCC suffered an earlier-than-expected exit in the Round of 16, Papineau's individual performance was a major bright spot and further established him as a player to keep a close eye on this season.

Zach Wade

Honeybaked 15U

C · 7 GP · 3 G · 9 A · 12 PTS

Wade put together an impressive offensive tournament for Honeybaked, finishing tied for second in overall scoring with 12 points in seven games. His nine assists led all players at the event, highlighting his ability to contribute as a playmaker. Alongside tournament scoring leader Landon Burke, Wade helped power a dangerous HoneyBaked attack that advanced all the way to the semifinals before falling to fellow Detroit program Victory Honda.

While Burke grabbed headlines with his remarkable 11 goal performance, Wade's production deserves plenty of recognition. His ability to consistently generate offence and distribute the puck made him an important piece of one of the tournament's most productive teams. The American forward will be an interesting name to continue tracking throughout the season.

Tyson Orr

Elgin-Middlesex Canucks

C · 6 GP · 6 G · 4 A · 10 PTS

Tyson Orr continued to build on his reputation as one of the more dangerous offensive forwards in the 2011-born draft class, putting together an impressive tournament with six goals and ten points in six games. The Elgin-Middlesex standout was a driving force offensively for the Canucks, helping his club reach the quarterfinals while finishing among the tournament's leading goal scorers.

Coming off a remarkable U15 season in which he recorded 121 points in 71 games, Orr has shown little sign of slowing down as he transitions to U16 hockey. A natural goal scorer with a powerful release and the ability to finish from a variety of areas, Orr brings an intriguing offensive toolkit to the table. His performance in London was another encouraging showing for a player who should attract plenty of attention from OHL scouts throughout the season.

Mateo Georgy

Mississauga Rebels

RW · 8 GP · 6 G · 5 A · 11 PTS

Georgy played a major role in helping the Mississauga Rebels capture the Wendy Dufton championship, leading his team in scoring with 11 points across eight games. The skilled forward was a consistent offensive contributor throughout the Rebels' undefeated tournament run, combining high-end skating ability with the puck skills to create opportunities off the rush. His speed, acceleration and ability to attack defenders make him particularly dangerous in transition.

Georgy also delivered when it mattered most, converting a crucial shootout attempt in the championship game against Victory Honda. After the Rebels tied the game with just 13 seconds remaining, Georgy and teammate Liam Kozlowski both scored in the shootout to secure the title. It was an impressive weekend for Georgy, who emerged as one of the tournament's top performers while helping his club claim an early-season championship.
