Player Evaluations

#4
Hunter Willette

D · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Good-sized defenceman who looked smooth and composed throughout the game. Defended well using his reach and an active stick to disrupt plays and take away space from attacking forwards. Was tough to beat one-on-one, doing a nice job keeping opponents to the outside and making it difficult for them to get around him. A solid defensive showing, relying on his positioning, reach and stick work rather than overly physical play.

#77
Callan Cabral

D · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Played a steady, mistake-free game on the back end, showing good composure and a willingness to hold onto pucks to make plays rather than rush decisions. Took a hit to make a play on one occasion, showing good poise under pressure. Got a nice low, hard shot through from the point that led to a goal. One particularly impressive sequence saw him use his strong, powerful stride to carry the puck out of his own end, gain the red line, dump it deep and then beat defenders to the puck himself. A quiet but very effective game, with his skating and puck-moving ability standing out.

#11
Pearson Carbonell

D · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade B

slightly undersized defenceman who played with plenty of confidence and wasn't afraid to be aggressive offensively. Frequently joined the rush as an additional option and looked extremely comfortable with the puck, using his skating, puck control and changes of pace to evade forecheckers and carry pucks out of his own end. Ran the power play effectively, showing poise and good command of the puck. Scored a beautiful end-to-end goal, using his skating to retrieve the puck, beating a defender with a skilled move before finishing upstairs. His lack of size was noticeable in net-front battles, where he struggled to establish position against bigger opponents. Despite that, his ability to control the puck, escape pressure and create offence from the back end really stood out in this game.

#71
Jake Torresan

RW · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade A

Was a force throughout this game, with his combination of size, speed and power causing problems for Whitby all night. Forechecked relentlessly, often the first forward in on the puck, finishing checks hard and making life difficult for opposing defenders. Competed just as hard defensively, getting into shooting lanes and blocking shots. Was extremely tough to contain along the boards, often winning battles in the O-zone and emerging with the puck, taking a couple quick strides and getting into dangerous scoring areas. Showed he has plenty of skill to go along with his physical tools, picking up a nice power-play assist with a well-placed feed and adding another impressive helper on a deceptive fake shot-pass. An impressive performance where his strength, compete and ability to make plays with the puck were on full display.

#91
Matthew Feaver

LW · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade B

Was all over the ice in this one, putting together an impressive multi-goal performance. Showed off a nice release on his first goal before adding another with a skilled play to receive the puck on his backhand and finish. Looked quick and shifty with the puck, using his agility to create space and make himself difficult to contain. Did a good job finding open areas and getting himself into positions to receive pucks, while also showing good vision with a nice pass in the offensive zone. Has a somewhat slender frame but competed hard throughout the game and seemed to be involved in everything offensively.

#86
Mason Podstatzky

LW · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Mason was an offensive threat in this one, particularly off the rush, where he showed good awareness and an ability to create chances for his teammates. Made a nice feed on a 2-on-1 and several other smart plays to set up scoring opportunities. Showed he could finish as well, sniping a goal with an excellent shot before adding another by going to the net and being rewarded on the PP. Despite the multi-goal effort his involvement was somewhat inconsistent throughout the game, although that may have been partly due to the lopsided nature of the contest, with his team controlling much of the play. When engaged, his offensive instincts and ability to both create and finish chances stood out.

#79
Antonio Lucente

LW · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Brought good energy and pace to his shifts, playing a hard, physical game and showing a relentless effort in pursuit of the puck. Was aggressive on the forecheck and willing to engage in battles, making his presence felt when he was involved. His intensity and overall impact were somewhat inconsistent, however, with some shifts more noticeable than others.

#19
Daniel Kennedy

C · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade B

Showed good mobility and quickness in this game, particularly with his first few strides. Did a nice job working off the boards and attacking the middle of the ice, using his quick first step to create separation and get into more dangerous areas. Displayed decent hands and puck control while moving at pace. His ability to quickly emerge from along the wall and attack inside was a noticeable part of his game.

#13
Andrew Barinov

RW · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Showed some nice flashes in this game, using his speed and strength to attack defenders and drive the puck to the net. Made a couple of impressive power moves, leaning into defenders to protect the puck while working his way into scoring areas. Skated well and was difficult to contain when attacking with speed. His overall impact was inconsistent, however, with stretches where he was much less involved. Would like to see him use those physical tools more consistently throughout the game.

#45
Jaiden Trinidad

C · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade B

Brought a ton of energy and compete to this game, with his effort level remaining consistent from start to finish. Was relentless on the forecheck, using his quickness to close on defenders in a hurry and give them very little time or space to make plays. Just as committed defensively, constantly pressuring opponents and making himself a nuisance to play against. Doesn't possess a particularly high-end skill set, but made himself effective offensively through his skating and willingness to push the pace, leading the transition on several occasions. Really liked his motor and the way he consistently made life difficult for the opposition.

#9
Lucas Reid

RW · York-Simcoe Express · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Had a noticeable presence on the ice with his big frame, standing close to 6'3". Skating wasn't a standout attribute, but moved well enough to be effective and keep up with the pace of play. Put together a solid two-way performance, breaking up plays and showing good defensive awareness and commitment. Was particularly effective on the defensive side of the puck, while still finding opportunities to contribute offensively and generate a few scoring chances. A steady game where his size and responsible play stood out.

#77
Owen Hunter

D · Whitby Wildcats · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Good-sized defenceman who showed some encouraging qualities in this game. Used his stick effectively defensively to disrupt plays and generally kept things simple with the puck, making smart decisions rather than forcing plays. Skated fairly smoothly for his size and had a nice sequence where he used his legs to create a scoring opportunity.

#14
Cole Maher

LW · Whitby Wildcats · 2027 Draft

Game grade B

Big-framed player who showed some surprisingly soft hands and good composure with the puck for his size. Handled the puck well under pressure, showing patience and making smart decisions rather than forcing plays. Made his physical presence felt with a nice hit, but also showed some offensive touch, feathering a well-placed shot toward the net that was tipped home for an assist. Liked the combination of size, puck control and calm decision-making he displayed in this game.

#82
Everett Newell

D · Whitby Wildcats · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Good-sized defenceman who put together a steady game, moving the puck effectively out of his own end. Made some good first passes to help initiate the breakout and generally kept things simple with the puck. A fairly quiet showing, but displayed some solid puck-moving ability.

#92
Brayden Gobeil

C · Whitby Wildcats · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Showed some nice flashes of skill in this game, displaying soft hands. Looked to create offence rather than simply make the safe play, showing some creativity and confidence when attacking. Was rewarded with a power-play goal, getting his stick on a shot for a nice tip in front. A crafty forward who showed some intriguing offensive upside and potential to build on.

#86
Landon Wallace

LW · Whitby Wildcats · 2027 Draft

Game grade C

Undersized forward who made his presence felt with his speed and quickness throughout the game. Showed some nice moves with the puck, using his agility to beat defenders and attack the middle of the ice rather than staying to the outside. Constantly applied pressure on opponents, using his speed to close gaps quickly and force hurried decisions.
